This painting was inspired by my father, the quintessential angler of my life. While painting it, I was inspired to write and include a pantoum poem. Here are the words to the pantoum:
Along Kentucky banks into the late night
We patiently wait for a thrilling tug of line
This is our liminal space, our father-daughter rite
As dads go, I am thankful you are mine.
We patiently wait for a thrilling tug of line
Toking Rum River Crooks, swigging Maker’s Mark
As dads go, I am thankful you are mine.
We speak of theology into the dark.
Toking Rum River Crooks, swigging Maker’s Mark
From dark waters, sunfish, catfish and bass we pluck
We speak of theology into the dark
I’m your kid with prodigious fisherman’s luck.
From dark waters, sunfish, catfish and bass we pluck
You clean keepers with your fisherman’s knife
I’m your kid with prodigious fisherman’s luck
You are the quintessential angler of my life.
You clean keepers with your fisherman’s knife
This is our liminal space, our father-daughter rite
You are the quintessential angler of my life
Along Kentucky banks into the late night.
